The National Institute for Health Research invites expressions of interest for its researcher-led workstream call under the health technology assessment programme. This supports research that is immediately useful to patients, clinical practice, and policy and decision makers, assessing the effectiveness of technologies within the NHS.


The two streams include: 16/111 – expressions of interests to full proposals; 16/110 – evidence-synthesis full. Health technology covers any method used to promote health, prevent and treat disease, and improve rehabilitation or long-term care. Technologies in this context are not confined to new drugs, but include any intervention used in the treatment, prevention or diagnosis of disease.


Funding may support the following:
•systematic reviews;
•economic models;
•meta-analyses;
•mixed-treatment comparisons;
•expected value of information studies;
•randomised controlled and non-randomised trials;
•single centre studies;
•stand-alone pilot and feasibility studies;

The aim of this competition is to help businesses innovate to find new revenue sources. Proposals should show how to achieve a step change in business growth, productivity and export opportunities for at least one UK small and medium-sized enterprise (SME).

Closed 10 European Commission Innovative post-stroke tool 10/10/2016 09/12/2016 60,000 E The tenderer will develop and test solutions to improve stroke recovery, home-based rehabilitation and to empower stroke patients following hospital discharge.

Successful applicants from phase one will receive funding of up to €60,000 for feasibility studies or solution development projects lasting six months. In a follow-up phase two successful companies may receive up to €105,700 to develop prototypes and in a phase three successful companies may receive up to €930,000 to develop their solutions to scale in Northern Ireland and Italy.
