Information and Technology experts are invited to develop a new audio-visual technology package to allow mental health service-users to remotely-access and participate in ‘Recovery Colleges’.

Recovery Colleges are educational courses about mental health and recovery, created to increase service users’ knowledge and skills and promote their self-management, allowing them to get on with life despite mental health challenges. The Recovery Colleges give the opportunity to take part in wellbeing-focused workshops, psychological therapy programmes, mindfulness courses, and groups that support people to return to work or get more involved in community activities, alongside practical and social activities that scaffold wellbeing.

Many people struggle to attend the Recovery Colleges. The University of Bradford are seeking to develop an innovative technological solution that will enable service-users to participate in these sessions from home.

The Digital Challenge Workshop will simulate Recovery College Sessions that service users would need to be able to participate in from home. Workshop participants will be able to see first-hand the specific challenges faced in developing this kind of remote access technology, and be given the opportunity to work alongside clinicians, academics and technology colleagues to develop potential solutions.

Groups of interested participants will develop and progress the technology outside of the workshop, aiming to attract external funding with the support of the University of Bradford, Translate and DHEZ. Suitable technology would have applications within the University of Bradford Recovery Colleges, and those located worldwide.

The workshop is led by the Digital Health Enterprise Zone (DHEZ) and Translate on behalf of the University of Bradford.
