Seminar Series: Health Informatics

From October 2017 to February 2018, mHabitat are hosting a series of seminars focussing on health informatics.

The seminar series will be led by Mohannad Alajlani, a teaching fellow at Yorkshire Centre for Health Informatics. Mohannad is teaching in the health informatics Masters programme at the University of Leeds and has years of experience in research and teaching in the UK and overseas.

Each seminar is free to attend and will take place at FutureLabs in Leeds city centre. The seminars are aimed at health and care practitioners, digital innovators, citizens/patients and students.

Seminar series outline:

Seminar 1: Informatics in Healthcare

An introduction to Health Informatics, definition and history. This seminar will also address the importance of information in healthcare, the challenges and benefits of using technology to improve the quality of care delivered to patients.

When: 11th October 2017 at 15:00 – 16:00

Seminar 2: Mobile health and eHealth Systems

An introduction to Mobile Health to better understand the opportunities and constraints of mobile technology for supporting clinicians and patients. Also, to clarify the differences between Telemedicine, Telehealth and Telecare.

When: 15th November 2017 at 13:00 – 14:00

Seminar 3: History and future of telemedicine and mobile health in developed and developing countries and lessons learned from various projects

This session will take a global perspective on advances in health informatics and mobile health by examining case studies from the developed and developing countries, and to address the challenges and benefits of introducing new technology in complex socio-political health environments.

Seminar 4: Electronic Health Records

To appreciate the importance of Clinical Information Systems and Electronic Clinical Records in health care, and to understand the purpose, structure and uses of the clinical record.

When: 17th January 2018 at 13:30 – 14:30

Seminar 5: Big data

What do we mean by Big Data? What are the major challenges of data sharing? and what is the role of information in clinical, managerial and public health decision making?

When: 20th February 2018 at 13:30 – 14:30

Additional Information: Refreshments will be provided. Futurelabs is a 10-15 minute walk from Leeds Train Station and there is ample pay and display car parking available at Templar Lane/Edward Street car park, Victoria Gate car park (open air behind FutureLabs and multi-story opposite, pricey option), or Quarry Hill car park (2 minute walk, reasonably priced). Look out for our new grey canopy over the front porch.
